NORBERT'S TIPS ABOUT THE MANY
INTERESTING ACTIVITIES AROUND NEUKIRCHEN

Host Norbert collected suggestions for different activities starting at the Gasthof Friedburg and the village of Neukirchen. Both in summer and in winter, there's a lot to experience - we're constantly working on improving this website to present the latest suggestions.

PILGRIMAGE FOR A DAY

Neukirchen's Kapellenweg offers resting places for body and soul away from the hectic world. The only sound to be heard is the chirping of birds. The route passes through beautiful scenery and is an unforgettable experience for young and old. It invites you to take things slow as it winds past nine chapels. As you go along the circular trail you will walk through meadows, forests and small hills with wonderful views of the Hohe Tauern and the Pinzgauer mountains. You can start anywhere, in the town centre, in Venedigersiedlung, Rosental or Sulzau.

Tobogganing fun for the whole family

On the longest illuminated toboggan run in the world in the Neukirchen/Bramberg Wildkogel Arena, parents and children can enjoy an exceptionally long route: 14km of pure toboggan fun! The fun toboggan ride begins with trip up the Wildkogelbahn or Smaragdbahn cable cars. From the top station of the Wildkogelbahn tobagganists need to walk towards Wildkogel Alm (about 15 minutes), where you will find the start of the track. If you go up using the Smaragdbahn, you can join the track at Bramberg.

"Narrow-gauge" on National Park cross country ski trails and the local railway

Away from the pistes and halfpipes, the Hohe Tauern National Park's original Tauern valleys are full of things to explore. With over 200 inter-connected kilometres, the Pinzga Trail is ideal terrain for skaters, beginners, amateur runners and true professionals. Between Krimml and Zell am See you can also come back in comfort on the narrow-gauge local railway when it gets too late for the return journey.

Hiking vacation at the panorama site Friedburg

Hikers, climbers and pilgrims enjoy to be pampered naturally and with all our heart. The panorama site is the starting point of beautiful hiking trails through meadows and woods which lead to the valleys of the Hohe Tauern or to the Kitzbühel Alps. We provide hiking maps and excursion tips: plenty of worthwhile destinations, including the highest waterfalls of Europe, the Krimml Waterfalls, the NationalparkWorlds with all its information and the Avalanche-Dome, as well as museums, mountain railways and exhibitions. There's definitely something for everyone!

Wildkogel-Arena

Vignette-free through Austria

Snowy mountains soar into the sky, roads wind through lush green valleys. The drive through Austria to Slovenia, Croatia or Italy would be perfect, except for the annoying motorway tolls, which are not just charged on Austria's motorways. There are many countries where these tolls have an impact on your travel budget. If you want to save money on the vignette or the Go-Box for campers over 3.5 tonnes, and you don't mind not taking the shortest route, you can drive for free on the national roads and at the same time have an even closer encounter with Austria's beautiful landscape. When arriving to us, the motorway to Kufstein-Süd is Vignette FREE!

Kapellenweg

From hiking to the Harvest Festival

The Hohe Tauern National Park holiday region, with its 266 peaks over 3000m and its 342 glaciers, is rich in natural treasures - but also culinary peaks. Right next to the parking area at Gasthof Friedburg, we serve traditional delicacies from the region as well as lamb and goat specialities from our own farm. Where the finest ingredients, such as spring water, herbs, berries, fish and game, come from pretty much right outside the front door, the food is naturally good. Enjoy walks through one of the many Alpine pastures.

Rodelspaß

Sustainable tourism "Alpine Pearls"

Around the Wildkogel Arena there is a precious landscape that provides fascinating insights into a unique flora and fauna: The Hohe Tauern National Park. At more than 1,800 km2 it is the largest national park in the Alps, and includes much of the central main ridge of the Austrian Alps. The Hohe Tauern National Park's majestic peaks of over 3000m, like the Grossglockner, which at 3,798m is the highest mountain in Austria, the Dreiherrenspitze, the Große Geiger or the Großvenediger, can be seen towering over the park from far away.

Langlauf

Explore the wonderful winter landscape with snowshoes

You're sure to see amazing views of the lofty 3000m peaks in the Hohe Tauern National Park. You can explore the wintry freedom of nature with snowshoes, starting right in the parking area. In Habachtal you can watch the 100 red deer at their winter feeding from a newly-built observation point, and find out everything about the largest hoofed wild animal in the Alps from the professional hunters.

Wildkogel Arena: a gem in the middle of the Eastern Alps

"Land of Mountains ..." These are the opening words of the song that won the competition to choose Austria's national anthem in 1947, written by Paula von Preradović. Ever since, anyone who hears or reads this verse at the start of the national anthem knows what makes Austria special: the fascinating mountains of the eastern Alps, in whose heart the Wildkogel Arena shines like a jewel. The region and its hiking village, called "probably the friendliest holiday region in Austria", is situated west of Salzburg, in Oberpinzgau, at the foot of the mighty Großvenediger (3,666 m).

Land and people

The Wildkogel Arena is not just a "land of mountains" but also a "land of people". The residents of Neukirchen am Großvenediger and Bramberg am Wildkogel are a constant example of everything a healthy community needs: warmth, hospitality, joy, tradition and customs are highly valued in the two holiday resorts of the Wildkogel, where a land and its people live in perfect harmony! That's certainly one of the reasons why Neukirchen is gaining a reputation as "probably the friendliest holiday destination".
